Quotes to Entice…

“In order to understand the world, you must first go out and see it”

“Of course, for without my family I am no one. Our families are our greatest treasure, Letti.”

“People walk past those graves every day without a care for anyone except the person they came to visit. They act as though the other graves are empty but they’re not. Someone who once led a life is rotting beneath your feet. They may no longer have someone to mourn for them and so the least I can do is acknowledge that they once walked the earth, and that their memory is not forgotten.”

We don’t like people who ‘aven’t suffered so we make it our job to inflict that lesson.

“I really want to do something meaningful. I don’t want to pass through this world as a…invisible nobody. Y’know?”

“Believe in gold and thou shalt never settle for silver.”

“It was obvious from the day we met that you were innocent but beautifully strong; a seed that could grow into something magnificent.”

You didn’t come along to protect me as my knight, you came and showed me how to protect myself.

“You asked me why I bothered to bring knives to a gun fight. Well, it’s because I don’t see guns. I see a bunch of wanna-be heroes who have lost sight of their goal. You don’t have to burn something to the ground in order to make it better. That’s what a coward chooses to do. A real man, a real hero, takes the darkness of the world and shapes it into something brighter’.”

This is our world, and I for one intend to take it

“She was like, ‘If your hearts can be torn from your chests and you just die, then you’re not very strong, are you?’ and then I said ‘Yeah, well, I’m strong enough that mine still sits comfortably in my chest, so what does that tell you? It’s not about havin’ a hard shell; it’s about havin’ the strength to protect a weak one.’”

Because unfortunately, as a mother, sometimes I have to step back and let my children make their own mistakes so that they can learn from them.

“You’ve had a bounty on your head since the very day you became a possibility.”

“‘Those who are born into greatness have no real strength. Their position isn’t stable. But those who have had to work their way from the bottom; those who have had to bear a lot of pain and acquire a great amount of strength along their way, will tear the footing from beneath their feet. The top of the world belongs to those who understand it, not those who were born with it in their laps.’

when you love someone, you make grave mistakes

Some people may look tall but in reality, they are very small.

“The winds shalt heed my warning, no one tries a Kane and lives to tell the tale.”

“Sick or not you’re still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Well, even more beautiful because you’re fighting through something I couldn’t even begin to imagine. You’re beautiful inside and out. You’re strong inside and out. That’s true beauty.”

“Oh but the smallest of things can mean a great deal to the right person.”

“In time, Letti, I’ve found that if you look at yourself long enough, you see things you don’t wish to see. A past you wish to erase. But I can’t ever escape my past, for my past is who I am.”

“A war is comin’ Bellemere…choose your side carefully.”

“Amy will run to her boss and tell them how scared we are…which is exactly what we want. As I’ve told you many times before, you silly girl; it’s always best to strike when your enemy is weakest. When they believe that they have won…”

“I know you’re scared, Letti, but sweetheart…you haven’t seen anything yet. You’ve not known true fear…”

“immortal races are often very unintelligent. They think with their fists instead of their heads, and place differences above similarities that could bring us all peace. I care not for the battle between us; there is no sense in it. If you want to be an Immortal then by all means, do it; but by showing off and bad-mouthing one another we won’t achieve anything. You have to follow your heart.”

“There’s no such thing as a happy ending, is there?”

“Fine, I’ll speak plainly. I like that your eyes are a constant middle finger to the world!”

“You see? The world is our oyster, Letti! Vampires are, and always will be, the dominant race!”

“Just because we’re adults doesn’t mean we should grow up! The world’s a playground for us, Melody, and I for one intend to play!”

“Well the fact that he lets ‘his woman fight his battles’ tells me that he’s a pretty decent and self-assured man. This is the 21st century you know, Wyatt. Women don’t just sit at home and raise the kids anymore.”

“I never wanted this life for her.”

Being something extraordinary was often a heavy burden, a burden of which, if you weren’t strong enough, could capture and consume you.

Bellemere had never wished Letti to end things with Kaizen because he was an Immortal, and therefore her enemy. Instead it was because he and his family would be one more reason why Letti would soon be brought into the immortal world. A world where no one was ever safe. A world where differences, no matter how small, caused you to shed blood. A world where death and suffering was behind every door.

“Where have you been, mate? You really are confused! War has been in the air for over fifty years. It’s not just us, it’s everybody. And I mean all the races. This is the ultimate war to set things straight once and for all. No one of unhuman blood is trustworthy; no one is left out of this.”

“We all know there’s a puppetmaster pulling your strings.”

“Make way for the new king.”

“They are thought to be Angels who couldn’t let go of their life on Earth. Deceased humans who spent too much time in our world and grew a hatred towards their life as an Angel. They break their oath and never return to the Angel’s world; they start to grow a deep evil within them. Once the Arch Angels begin to realise that they are past the point of return, they sentence them to demonization. They send Angels to retrieve them from Earth and bring them back to their world.
“Once they’re there, they’re whipped, stabbed and slashed all over; especially their wings until the feathers are all gone. They keep going until the Angel faints, which takes a very long time because they’re so powerful, then they leave them. They are then kicked from their world, allowing them to fall down to the Underworld before turning dark in every way. They lose their Angel powers and acquire Demon ones.”
“Letti, there are two types of pain.” She held up her index finger is a ‘one gesture’, her eyes still shut. “The kind that drowns you in the depths of the deepest ocean…” She held up her middle finger to join the index in a ‘two gesture’. “And the kind that forces you to swim to shore. In my experiences, I’ve always preferred the latter, because it’s the struggle to shore that makes you stronger.” Carah opened her eyes and glanced into her sister’s. “Kaizen always makes it back to shore, Letti, and he always will. It’s you who needs the push in the right direction.”

“I know, I know…just always remember to listen to your heart’s song…” Carah whispered, holding back her own tears as she willed her heart not to break. “It will keep you alive.”

“The world isn’t big enough for all of us.”

“You’ve never really fitted in at school with those people and I’m sorry for that, Letti, but I think the real reason was because you weren’t meant to be with those mortals. You were meant to be with us all along, as much as I may not like it; mere mortals would never understand a girl from a prestigious household.”

“You can never trust a Vampire, child.”

“But you already knew that. You stood up to me because you didn’t think about what you were saying and to whom. You over think things, that’s how you get so scared; I see that now. Letti, you’ve imprisoned yourself in the fear. All you need to do is let yourself out, child.”

“Perhaps you’re right; the world will soon knock that out of her though. There’s only so many times you can fight before the only person you fight for is yourself…”

“Letti…I want you to appreciate the little things in life because one day, when the big things come along to crush you, it’ll be the little things that keep you standing…The little things like that sweet churning in your stomach when you’re with him. That small memory can be the difference between happiness and totally destruction…”

“Our relationship…is like fire, Kaizen. You know? Like our feelings are beautiful, warm and full of life.” She smiled dreamily before it quickly dropped from her face,” But it burns, scolds and kills people. To be honest, I’m not sure how good we are together.”

“No matter who you are, everyone has a shadow; a constant darkness that follows them wherever they go…unless where you go is into the darkness itself, of course, because then you have already been consumed…”

“We all know what’s coming. The winds are picking up, spiralling closer and bringing with it a great wave of destruction…none of us can hide…no matter which side you choose, you’ll be dragged into the line of fire and who’s to say, my friend, which of us will come out alive?”

“Letti faltered for a moment, but just a moment, “Because…there’s always something, anything, to live for. And so I’ll fight in order to find out what that something is.”

“Truth means facing denial and saying I know who I am, I know who I need to be and I’m not afraid to become that person no matter what. You can become strong and stay true to who you are; you just need to embrace the idea. Let it in instead of running. I’m not telling you to stop being scared. Never be without fear; but Letti,” she looked deep into the hazel eyes of her daughter, “never be without fight.”

“But I reckon we are all born with one wing,” Letti looked under her arm, trying to locate the ‘wing’ on her back. “An invisible wing, Sweetie! And it gives us the ability to take our feet off of the ground, but if we want to be able to join the Angels in the sky, we must earn the other wing.”

“The only fair way is to let you choose. It’s down to you, Letti, what will it be? The life of a Vampire, or the life of an Immortal?”

“So many years have gone by, taking everyone I’d ever dared to love along with them. It has been a while since I last loved someone, Letti. This decade is my least favourite. The people are distasteful. But you…you changed my opinion; you changed my whole family’s opinion by simply being pure of heart. As much as I tried to fight it, I couldn’t be without you. I thought maybe I’d been given a chance to be happy again, to forgive and forget my past but no!”

“OK, Kaizen’s not perfect but who are you to judge him? No one is perfect and I wouldn’t want him to be. Perfection isn’t real.”

“Stop letting your feelings towards dad, mark your feelings towards Kaizen…Next time you see him I want you to look at him, really look at him, and then tell me that he meant to hurt me. Tell me he’ll do it again. If you can see that he will, if you truly believe he will, I’ll never see him again.”

“Like I’ve told you before; you’ll always walk past people exhaling toxic smoke, but it’s up to you if you choose to inhale it. Strength is strength, evil is evil, sometimes the two cross but they’re not the same. The truth is, you are who you are.”

“You were never born to pass through this world. One day we’ll all look like ants to you.”

“Sometimes we have to stand when standing is hard, Letti, remember that.”

“A lot of the world’s most devastating events come from people with ‘good intentions’, Letti.”

“She’s not the same girl I met almost a year ago. Her hands no longer shake. Those hazel eyes were always so brave but you’d look at her and her body would quiver. She’d seem so fragile but look into her eyes and they’d say, ‘Give me your best shot!’ Now, now I can see that the rest of her body has caught up with her eyes. She’s strong…”

“Well you need to change your perspective then, son. Some see a butterfly, others see a falcon.”

“…Rows upon rows upon rows of graves have been dug for my friends, family, neighbours, and loved ones. Generations come and go whilst I continue to live. I change my form to start a new life but the truth remains, it’s all just one long, agonising life that I’m supposed to appreciate. But how can I? How are you supposed to be content with living for eternity, if the ones you meet and come to love along the way, can’t stay with you forever? You have to watch them die. All of them doomed to the same fate whilst you live on. It’s sick.”

“But she already is; she always was. Her surname alone indicates that.”

“To see the world burn, and a new one be born from the ashes…”

“Fear is caused by desperation. Being desperate to hold onto your world; onto everythin’ that makes you who you are. Your parents, your husband, your children, your home, your job, and most importantly, your life. But it’s all the same. It’s just a need for things to never change, and a desperate need to do anythin’ in order to keep it that way. That’s why our greatest fear is the unknown. When you don’t understand something, you don’t know how to arm yourself against it. You become desperate, confused…scared. Everyone will always have one thing that they need to protect and so with that, comes the fear that it will be taken from them.”

“Yes, but you can see in her eyes that she’s becoming stronger. As you know all too well, one must first endure pain to realise what it means to be strong.”

“The moment you and your little friends started to use my daughter as a pawn, I automatically began playing your game. The thing is though, Sphinx, my dear, I’m not a very good loser.”

“The strong devour the weak and that’s all there is to it. And so to escape that, you must become one of the strong.”

“Someone so perfect can only be made more perfect by their own ‘imperfections’.”

“You are what you allow people to know ‘bout you. Truth or lies, or some combination of the two, is what makes you who you are.”

“Do you know what your name means, Letti? It means joy. Appropriate as it’s all I see you bringing to people…I brought you here because this place brings me joy, too. The blue rose is a particularly peculiar flower…You are a blue rose, Letti. It’s almost impossible that you exist amongst the other roses but you do. You bring wonder to those who are lucky enough to find you. The blue rose is lonely, lost and awaits someone special to believe in them; the same feeling I got from you the day we met. Blue roses are incomprehensible and mysterious. And so are you.”

“I’m scared that you’ll make me love you…and then you’ll leave me,”

“You see these?” He asked, looking her in the eyes as he pointed to the gaps in-between his fingers. “I don’t mean to insult you with clichés but I was thinking about this yesterday. These spaces are for your fingers, Letti. Each space represents something that I need and that you give me. Love, friendship, family, and innocence. Only when we’re hand in hand am I truly complete.”

“The most beautiful thing a girl can wear is her smile.”

“I don’t have a type. I think it’s silly when people do. As long as a man treats you right and treats those around him right, what more do you need?”

“We all know what’s coming. The winds are picking up, spiralling closer and bringing with it a great wave of destruction…none of us can hide…no matter which side you choose, you’ll be dragged into the line of fire and who’s to say, my friend, which of us will come out alive?”

“Besides, men aren’t worth your time anyway, Letti. If we women spent as much time on ourselves as we do fretting over men, we’d be invincible! Work on yourself because at the end of the day, you’re the only person you can trust unconditionally.”

“Fine, but don’t you dare hurt her, Symphany. Once you’re done playing with your new toy, don’t you dare hurt her.” Kaizen threatened, approaching her with such a strong air of power that she may have been frightened if he hadn’t been her twin.

“How dare you come into my home? And hurt my family? I ought to tear your throat out right here, right now!”

“Whoever is messing with my daughter, messing with my home, will be sorry they chose to play this game. I’ll be screaming checkmate before they even realise I moved my pawns.”

They said their goodbyes and Kaizen did not turn back until he saw that she was safely inside her house because only then, when she was out of sight, did the rest of the world come back into view.

“No, keep your head up. You need to show these people that you belong here,”

“The world isn’t big enough for all of us.”

“Gosh, there was so many things that I said and I shouldn’t have, and I didn’t say when I should have; wow, what a waste. If there’s one thing I don’t regret it’s meeting you. Forget all the bad stuff. You were and always will be the single most important thing in my life. Thank you for caring for me when it appeared no one else would. Thank you for providing me with friendship, family, security, and love. I don’t know how I survived without you before now! I hope it’s not soon but…I’ll see you on the other side, at the white gates I guess.”

“Are you blind, or stupid? Your family hurt Letti way before I came into her life.”

The fake kingship he had thrust upon himself needed to be taken away and Symphany was ready to be the one to dethrone him.

“Letti, I just need you to know…monster I might be, but evil I’m not. I’m not the bad guy.”

The bond between mother and daughter had been severed. Bellemere and Letti had never been close friends but she had always known that Letti trusted her. But now, now she wasn’t so sure her daughter could ever trust again.
